No One UnderstandsThe Weight of the World is Becoming Unbearable

Society is on a crash course for disaster. It’s impossible to stop seeing the suffering, injustice, and uncertainty around you.

You are baffled when you meet others who seem genuinely happy. How can anyone be truly content when the world is headed for self-destruction? Are people ignorant, or do they just not care?

When the problems of the world begin to outweigh your sense of hope, it’s easy to wonder whether anything you do matters.

It Might be Existential Depression

  • Existential depression is a constant feeling of isolation, meaninglessness, and hopelessness due to world events.

How is this Different from Existential Dread?

  • Existential dread is a temporary feeling that is brought on by something specific (like thinking about death or the unknown).
  • Existential depression is a chronic sense of meaninglessness, hopelessness, and isolation which can make you feel sad, stuck, or completely shut down.

Why Even Try?

It would be nice to feel things like hope, passion, and joy.

But those feelings seem ridiculous when you think about world events.

Other therapists have told you to “focus on the positive” or “change your perspective.”

However, when your concerns are grounded in real problems, “focusing on the positive” feels as impossible as trying to forget about reality.

I Can Help

You don’t have to pretend the world is okay in order to feel better.

As a therapist who values social justice, I understand that “changing your perspective” isn’t realistic when the world is (literally) on fire.

Instead, let’s discover changes that are possible.

Work With Your Values1Take the First Step

Therapy isn’t about convincing you that everything is okay.

It’s about working with your values instead of against them.

It’s about helping you navigate the weight of the world without losing yourself in it.

I have helped many clients get relief from existential depression without sacrificing their values.
