Frequently Asked Questions

PRAGMATIC QUESTIONS

What are your qualifications?

I have been seeing clients as a mental health practitioner since 2018. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) and EMDR trained.

Social justice is both personally and professionally important to me, and I strive to make my practice affirming and inclusive. I welcome and support BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, disability communities, as well as those who are neurodivergent and kink/sex positive.

When do you see clients?
I see clients Monday through Friday. Contact me now to schedule your consultation or appointment.
How long is a typical session?

Our sessions are typically 55 minutes.

What is your cancellation policy? Do you charge a late cancel fee?

If you need to cancel a scheduled appointment, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice. Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the start of your appointment may be charged a $75 late cancellation fee.

However, no late cancel fee will be charged for sessions cancelled due to illness or emergency.

THERAPY QUESTIONS

Do you assign homework between sessions?

No, I don’t typically assign homework between sessions. The idea of being assigned a “homework” assignment to turn in to my own therapist before our next session fills me with dread just thinking about it. The last thing I want is for you to feel that way about our upcoming appointments.

Instead of assigning homework, let’s work together to find small, sustainable life changes that you’re interested in trying on your own. I usually don’t follow up on how those changes are going (unless you want me to). My belief is that if a change is sustainable and meaningful to you, it won’t require a lot of accountability to keep it going, and so far my clients seem to agree!

How do make your sessions “ADHD-friendly”?

I do a lot to make sessions ADHD-friendly, but here are just a few examples:

  • Last-minute intake paperwork: Just finishing your paperwork two minutes before our first session? That’s totally fine with me!
  • Keeping us on task: If there is something specific you want to discuss, let me know! If the end of our session is looming and we haven’t quite gotten to your desired subject yet, I’ll give you a friendly reminder in case you want to re-focus if needed.
  • No pathologizing fidgeting: Fidgeting is a part of having ADHD! Feel free to bring fidgets, move around, or shift in your seat without worrying about whether I’ll read into your movements.

If you have specific requests for making sessions more ADHD-friendly, I’m happy to accommodate!

How do you make your sessions “autism-friendly”?

I do a lot to make sessions autism-friendly, but here are just a few examples:

  • Specific communication: Phrases like “practice self-care” and “put yourself out there” can be vague and confusing. I provide specific examples instead, so you can leave our sessions feeling clear and empowered, not confused.
  • Maintaining routine: I offer a consistent schedule that allows you to book sessions the same day and time every week. If you would like help deciding on a routine for our sessions, I’m happy to assist.
  • Respecting communication preferences: If you have a strong preference for email, texting, or phone calls, let me know, and I’ll note it in your chart. I’m diligent about monitoring texts, emails, and voicemails during business hours to ensure that my clients can receive a timely response, regardless of their communication preferences.

If you have specific requests for making sessions more autism-friendly, I’m happy to accommodate!

Are there issues that you don't address in your practice?

It’s important to me that you receive the best care possible, even if that means connecting you with a different professional. I typically offer referrals for the following concerns: addictions, couples therapy, disordered eating, OCD, psychosis, and therapy for children or teens.

FUN QUESTIONS

Am I allowed to ask you personal questions?

Ask any questions you want! I don’t typically share many details about my life unless you ask (because I know some clients have been harmed by their previous therapist disclosing waaay too much information), but if therapist disclosure helps you feel more comfortable, then I am an open book.

What helps you with ADHD?

Here are my top three things that help me live my best ADHD life.

  • Body doubling: “Body doubling” for ADHD means working on a task while another person works alongside you. For example, I can clean my room while a friend on a video call cleans their room.
  • The “Libby” app: The Libby app is a free app anyone with a library card in the USA can use. My favorite way to use it is to listen to audiobooks (especially while I do chores).
  • Sticky notes (like, everywhere): My brain doesn’t respond well to electronic reminders on my phone, so when I have an appointment outside of my usual routine, I rely on sticky notes. I place them in spots I can’t ignore, like on my phone, the bathroom sink handle, or the steering wheel of my car. This system helps ensure my ADHD brain doesn’t miss anything!
What are your favorite books?
  • Mainstream fantasy: “A Court of Thorns and Roses” series by Sarah J. Maas
  • Lesbian romantasy: “Gideon the Ninth” by Tamsyn Muir
  • A series that no one else has heard of: the “Heritage” series by Ilona Andrews
